Over the Ends of the Earth - Profiles
Cascada Delors
The main character of Over the Ends of the Earth, Cascada (or Cassie, as she'd rather be known) starts out as the second child of Ethanuel and Larlia Delors, poor farmers living in the Shilinger Province of Eleskar. She is pretty much your average fifteen-year-old girl, except for one major difference.
Cassie is a mage.
But don't let that freak you out; she's never used her powers, partially because she doesn't know how, and partially because if she is caught using magic of any kind, she is liable for execution by being tossed off the Road of the Abyss, a path that leads to the ends of Eleskar, and the place where all magic-users go if they violate the law. So Cassie deals with the ostracism of having magical powers, in spite of the fact that she has no desire to harm anyone and doesn't even know what her abilities entail! But that may soon change as harsh times befall the family...
Ethanuel Delors
Affectionately known as Pa to his children, Ethanuel, also called Ethan, is the hard-working, perpetually exhausted head of the family. Although he may seem calm and even-tempered, this is one man you do not want to get angry. His farm and family are everything to him, but as it is, he barely manages to provide for his wife and three children. Of all the children, he is closest to Cassie, and when strange things begin happening to her, he is one of the first to notice...
Larlia Delors
Mother, wife, and hard worker, Larlia wants nothing more than to make sure her children have a happy life, but given their circumstances, it's unsure how successful she's going to be with that objective. Larlia is quiet and doesn't say much but is very aware of what's going on with her family. However, there is one secret she doesn't know about, and it concerns Cassie's powers...
Serine Delors
Pessimistic, unhappy, and meloncholy pretty much sum up Serine, Cassie's 18-year-old sister. Serine once was a fairly cheerful person until she got involved with Barit Isoldatch. She is in a relationship with him, but in truth, she doesn't love him at all. She only stays with him because she fears him and his influence as a soon-to-be-casror (priest). Serine has no doubt that Barit doesnt' love her either; he only wants Serine so he can keep an eye on Cassie, and this has made Serine very bitter. How this will affect Cassie remains to be seen...
Halesk Delors
Slightly hyper, very loveable, and quite adventurous, Halesk, better known as Hal, is the 7-year-old brother of Cassie and Serine. He looks up to Cassie the most and loves to visit her when she's out in the pasture with the animals. Hal is still too young to fully grasp the family's poverty, but he knows that things aren't going well, and he can't stand Barit at all. Off all the family members, he and Cassie are probably the closest, but that bond may become somewhat strained in light of coming events...
Barit Isoldatch
Barit wasn't a particularly nice chap to begin with, but one bad incident made him into the cold-hearted fanatic he is today.
As a casror-in-training, one of his responsiblities is to help in the arrest of illegal magic-users. On one of these arrests, the mage in question managed to defeat the rest of the casrors and attempted to flee. When Barit tried to stop him, the mage blasted him with his magic, severing two of Barit's fingers. This event woke in Barit a complete and utter hatred for any and all magic-users, particularly mages, and he vowed to "bring to justice" any that crossed his path.
Unfortunately for Cassie, Barit has targeted her and has gone so far as to start a relationship with Serine in order to keep a close watch on Cassie. Barit is a fanatic and once he promises to apprehend a magic-user, there's no telling what he'll do to achieve his goal...
Parvish Kitsoa
Sweet-natured, slightly dorky, and blessed with a great sense of optimism, Parvish, nicknamed Pary, is practically the polar opposite of Barit, even though he is also a casror-in-training (admittedly, he only just started his training). Pary and Cassie have been best friends ever since they were children and are very close. However, Pary's feelings for Cassie are probably a bit deeper than hers for his, but that doesn't stop him from always being there for her if she needs it. This loyalty may be tested to the utmost as Cassie begins to discover her powers...
