The Library - Profiles

Tanya:

The narrator of The Library, Tanya is shy, sarcastic, and a total nerd. Before the trio were sent into the past, Tanya was always the one burrowing her nose in books and spouting facts. Now, however, she is growing more assertive and outspoken. Probably has something to do with the fact that she's become a full-blown sorceress. She even has a nice shiny staff made by a librarian who was sick of her attempts at magic resulting in total destruction and mayhem.

Quick-witted and sharp of tongue, Tanya also has a bit of a knack for impromptu passionate speeches, which galvanized the creation of the Rebellion. But there's always the danger that Tanya has bit off more than she can chew...and that she's put other in danger because of it.

Alye:

Short in both stature and temper, Alye is the resident nutcase and crazy-girl. Convincing Tanya and Philipia to investigate the mysterious door in the library, you could say she's partly responsible for landing in the Medieval period. Her impulsiveness and slight ruthlessness scare everyone except her two closest friends, who are quite used to her obsessions with pointy objects. She has been gifted with unbelievable swordsmanship (terrifying beyond reason, I assure you) and also appears to have a serious crush on Aubrey, the enigmatic and VERY proper son of the local lord. But how is this crush going to affect the rest of the group, especially now that a rebellion has been formed against Aubrey's father?

Philipia:

Sarcastic, methodical bordering on obsessive-compulsive, and way more logical than either of her two best friends, Philipia is the stabilizer of the group. She's usually stuck with the unenviable role of prying Alye and Tanya apart when the two are in spitfire mode. Of course, it helps that Philipia is a full-blown shapeshifter, although she's not quite as proficient as Elspeth...yet.

She tutors underneath Lunae, whose woodsmanship has greatly helped Philipia get control of her powers. Philipia was the first to demonstrate her newly-discovered abilities when she turned into a lion to frighten off some creepy soldiers. Now, thankfully, it doesn't require a life-threatening situation (i.e. getting tossed out of a window) to get her to shapeshift.

Aubrey:

Also known as Alye's hearthrob, Aubrey is the only son of Lord Delroy, the guy who oversees all the operations of Glovebern. Shockingly polite, dryly witty, and with a hidden nasty streak, Aubrey has "befriended" the future trio: Tanya, Alye, and Philipia, but especially Alye. As the charming nobleman grows closer to Alye, how is this going to affect the group's relationships? Now that he's joined the Rebellion effort, what will this do to help or hinder the movement? And what secrets is this apparently decent guy hiding?

Selene:

If the sight of a girl surrounded by an aura of flame doesn't startle you, either you're dreaming, or you're well acquainted with Selene.

Selene is the epitome of Medieval goth, with her black, red, and purple clothing, pale skin, and jet black hair. Underneath that unnerving exterior is a dry, witty, and somewhat cold-blooded girl who knows she's a freak and loves it. Selene derives her fire powers from the Inosital herb, which grows wild in the forest where Lunae resides. The herb can only be harvested at the full moon, where it changes its usual drab green and yellow appearance for a shimmering plant with sparkling flowers that exude the smell of moonlight. And because of her consumption of Inosital, Selene survived being burned at the stake by the witch-fearing villagers of Glovebern. This has done nothing to bolster her reputation.

Close friends with Lunae and recruit of the Rebellion, Selene is a valuable asset to the team. Of course, she just has to keep Alye's hands off her Inosital.

Lunae:

A strange girl who lives alone in the woods in a house built in the trees.  Her greatest friend is Selene, probably because they're both so unusual.  Lunae has amazing skill with a bow and is the best hunter in all of Glovebern.  With a bow in hand and arrows in her quiver, she's almost unstoppable, especially with her strong link with nature.  She joined the Rebellion at the same time as Selene and trains Philipia to perfect her shapeshifting abilities.  If you want someone to lead you through the forest, Lunae's your girl.

Redmond:

When you first get a glimpse of Redmond, the thought that will most likely pop into your mind is "dumb but funny." This, however, could not be farther from the truth. Redmond, though he may be the jester of the castle, has a sharp eye and quick mind that he puts to good use every day. For he acts as the Rebellion's main information gatherer, using his jester status to plunder rooms of revealing documents that will assist the group in raids and other such matters.

Smart, funny, and with a brilliant knack for making people laugh, Redmond is well-liked by pretty much everyone. But by joining the Rebellion, he's broken and violated the jester code of conduct. Will this come back to haunt him?

Elspeth:

Elspeth first came to the trio's attention when they fended off three soldiers who were attacking her. The three were nearly burned at the stake for their efforts, but you can be sure Elspeth appreciates it. But Elspeth is not just some helpless damsel. Rather, she has a secret of her own.

For Elspeth is a shapeshifter, like Philipia, only her power is limited to felines. Of course, this still leaves her with a fairly broad selection to choose from, and she's very proficient with her abilities. She can even do a partial shapeshift, something Philipia has yet to accomplish.

Quirky, innocent, and nicer than pretty much anyone else, Elspeth is the "every-girl" who just happens to have sweet powers.

Kymber:

All her life, Kymber has been exposed to castle life (sorta). Her father is the castle blacksmith and she has always helped him with his forging and metalworking, particularly when it comes to shoeing horses. Ever since she could talk, Kymber possessed an affinity for animals. She could work with them and get the most fractious horse to calm down for a shoeing. But she never knew how she did it.

Until it was revealed that she could talk to animals. Now Kymber is a part of the Rebellion, translating for Philipia or Elspeth whenever they are in animal form, and basically doing anything and everything to help out. She is selfless, slightly shy, and very empathetic. Probably why she developed such a power.

Violet:

Violet is the last person you'd think would get involved with the Rebellion. She's relatively morbid, a complete hypochondriac, and overly serious. And yet this unlikely person also possesses a brilliant strategic mind, easily thinking out all the possibilities of an action before taking it. This has made her absolutely essential to the Rebellion's success.

Violet came late into the story, the Rebellion discovering her talents when she devised a better way to do a raid within two minutes of looking over the available information. She also has a knack for healing since she's so concerned about her own health. This comes in handy when someone is wounded on a mission, needless to say.
